Some take a more-the-merrier perspective on complications, and on that view, more is ... well, more. From this POV, parts count is a good in and of itself, and complexity is pursued more or less for link its own sake. link I can sympathize with this take – I feel it myself sometimes, especially as a watch writer. Who wouldn't want to go deep on a Patek Caliber 89 link or Star Caliber 2000?

Wait, you might say, the AP and the Vacheron are platinum and skeletonized, while the Patek is none of those things. This is of course true, and while I once had a platinum 3940P on my wrist for a few link sublime seconds, there didn't seem to be one available among the couple thousand watches at the Miami link Beach Antique Show, so I had to make do (poor me). And Patek never made a skeletonized 3940 anyway – the naughtiest thing Patek ever did was put the movement link on display through a sapphire caseback.
