The dial is one of the most appealing aspects of the Khaki Field Mechanical. It’s a simple black canvas with white markings and numerals to tell time on the 12-hour and 24-hour military scale. This is a design that isn’t strictly attributable to any one current watch link designer, but rather descends from a series of military specifications – link notably the MIL-W-3818B link of 1962 – manufactured in the Vietnam war era by a handful of watchmakers that included Hamilton.

Personally I am not one for the whole skeletonized thing but here with the balance of color and the way the mechanical components are seamlessly blended in with the blue motif and Zenith iconography there's a real sense of modern design understanding at work here. This dodecagonal-shaped bezel of a watch link is link no vintage reissue though the Defy line has its historical chops. This is contemporary watch design complete with texture material innovation and link bullish dial work.
