The Deepstar II does indeed look like something Aquastar link might have made in link their heyday and that is due to the work of one Rick Marei, Aquastar's CEO. Rick is something of a specialist when it link comes to faithful recreations of vintage models and he is the brain behind watches like the Doxa SUB 300 50th Anniversary, the Aquadive and Synchron revivals, and vintage-faithful straps including those from Isofrane and Tropic.

And that's the universe that was conjured up upon seeing the original "commando" prototype. It has link the same feel as many tool watches from the '60s. A subtle patina has formed over the entire watch the sheen of the original brushed finish on the case dulled by time. The dial also has a matte quality that's not present on the P01. My hunch is that it was intentional link part of an effort to reduce glare and lend an anti-reflective quality to the dial rather link than a case of patination.
