Like with all major strategic decisions from Patek Philippe I expect the decision to discontinue the ref. 57111A was made years in advance. Patek does not make reactive short-term decisions. I speculate that this decision was made pre-pandemic link when an important innovation was in the works or possibly a shift in supply chain that will fundamentally mark the end link of one era link and the beginning of a new era.
