The alarm sounds thanks to a hammer that hits the striking pin driven directly into the caseback. The sound of this alarm is pretty unusual nothing like the harmonious gong sound of a minute repeater. Instead a rattle-like noise which sounds remarkably like an old fashioned wind link up toy emanates with a steady vibration subtle when worn on the link wrist for daily appointments. Not so subtle when placed on a bedside table if used as link an alarm clock.
