    Can an in force automobile insurance policy be cancelled while it's in force without penalty

    They always try that on don't they. I have cancelled a couple of insurance policies and a internet connection, they all sent me demands for money just for cancellation charges, just tell them where to stick it, and don't pay them. 

    Read your policy carefully, especially the fine print. Chances are, if there is a penalty, it's in there. If you're in the U.S., check with there regulatory agency to see if this is legal.
