    When set correctly,it arranges for the piston to hit top dead centre ( tdc ),when the piston reaches full compression,then sparks creating the burn,providing horse power to the drive,,,best i can do mate..>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

    On most cars it controls the camshaft so the pistons and valves are in phase. If the cambelt (timing belt) breaks the valves hit the piston and the enging is ruined. You need to replace cambelts every 80,000 miles or three years as it deteriorates even if the car is not used.
