    Removing Dried or Old Blood Stains

    It isn't always possible to immediately treat blood stains. This is especially true of bedding, sheets and even mattresses when sometimes menstrual blood has leaked.

    If this happens;

    1. Soak the sheets in cold water for several hours to loosen and dissolve as much of the stain as possible.

    2. You might even run it through a complete cold water wash with a mild detergent.

    Check the amount of stain remaining, then:

    Mix 1 Tbs. Meat Tenderizer and 2 tsp. Cold Water to make a paste, and follow these instructions:

    • Spread the paste on the blood stain and work in with your fingers.

    • Allow it to sit for a half hour to an hour.

    • Shake off excess and wash in cold water.

    Throw them out and get new sheets .

    Have you tried the meat tenderizer yet? I would love to know if it worked. The theory seems sound, especially if you use one with bromelain, either alone or with papain.

    This may seem like a commercial but . . . . go buy yourself an OXI CLEAN Max Force Pre-treater gel stick. It comes with a scrubbing tip. Squeeze the stick to release the gel and agitate the scrubbing tip on BOTH SIDES of the stain. Let that sit for an hour or two and then wash the item on a normal wash cycle. It works like magic! I've used it on stains that had already gone through multiple washings and dryings with positive results. Oh, and the next time you dismember someone, don't do it on your bed.

    If the sheets are white, pour hydrogen peroxide directly on the stain.  If you can, fill a bowl with the peroxide and soak the stained area.  Let it sit for 30 minutes or so, but don't let it dry.  Use a small scrub brush, a rough washcloth, or even your fingertips on the stain every 10-15 minutes.  Rinse with cold water and repeat as necessary.  Launder in cold water before use (obviously).  You may have to repeat the process a few times.  It's best to keep the stain wet.  Don't put it in a hot dryer until the stain is gone.  If you need to dry it before the stain is gone, hang it up, lay it out on a table, or use the air fluff setting on your dryer.
