        I want beans to be entirely devoid of additional sugar, irrespective of whether the sugar is refined or not - sugar [sucrose] is just sugar. One way is to add tomato puree to the baked beans in a generous proportion. Sometimes I add Cayenne pepper and less often turmeric. Then into the microwave for two minutes.
        Dried beans are available from supermarkets and whole food shops but they seem to take hours of cooking to make them remotely like the beans out of the tin, apart from the added sugar.
        A little sugar is good in gooseberry trifles where it belongs.

        Tomato Sauce


        Tomato sauce is a concentrated form of tomato and often contains added sugar. On average, a 1/2-cup serving contains 12 to 13.5 g of carbohydrates and 3 to 3.1 g of fiber, or the equivalent of 9 to 10.4 g of net carbs. If you have tomato sauce on pasta, it is not uncommon to use 1 to 1.5 cups at a time, which would add up to 18.4 to 31.2 g of net carbs; that amount can significantly affect your blood sugar levels, without even considering the pasta itself.
