I first became aware of Maya when I borrowed I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS from my grandmother. Beautiful story and it explained so much about the woman. Her work will be missed…….

I only knew her from being on the Oprah show. I'm not a fan of poetry and not familiar with other things that she did. :(

Read I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS, it tells of her life (she was a dancer!), how she got the name Maya, her siblings and why she started writing. She wasn’t ALL poetry……...

Someone else told me a long time ago, that I would enjoy this book and I just never got around to reading it. I realize that poetry was only one of her talents. Maybe I WILL read it now.
