    Stupid question of the day

How do you put a roll of toilet paper on the holder ? Do you put it where it pulls over the top , where it is closer to user, or pulls back next to wall away from user on bottom.

I put this same question on here a few years ago. We had quite a discussion about it.

It has been asked before but.....like this.

Does folding the end help you to remember which direction to pull the paper when needed? Do you fold it after each use.

Yes digger and sometimes I even use a black marker to outline the edges and make it look more like a real arrow!
    digger

Now I'm concerned about the "sometimes" that you don't use the helpful marker. Is that when you head for the nearest gas station or Tim Horton's ?

I cleaned hotel rooms in Florida in the late 80's and we were told to fold the edges of the tp paper just like the image shown above. I think it was for psychological purposes to make the person aware that the toilet had not been used after it had been cleaned. (Eye Roll) :))

When I see toilet paper folded like that in a hotel, I'm completely convinced that NOBODY has been anywhere NEAR that bathroom in weeks, so I know it's germ free and hygienic. :))

OMGoodness! If I told you what I know you would never stay in a hotel again!
Do you want some examples or should I spare you the details?

Do you recommend that I wear a space suit when I check-in at the Hilton? How am I ever going to squeeze THAT in my carry-on bag ?

Digger this reminds me of the time my ex and I stopped at a roadside motel in the middle of the night on our way to Colorado. It was so filthy that I spread sheets across the floor to walk on top of but I still didn't take off my shoes. I set on the corner of the bed all night because I refused to fall asleep in such filth.
Ducky it's the little things people don't think about as being dirty that I'm very aware of such as the ice buckets in the rooms. Most of them don't get washed. I was taught to just grab a dirty towel off the bathroom floor and wipe it dry. BARF!

Documentaries always show the tests they do with the ultra-violet light. It shows "stuff" everywhere, even in the most expensive hotels. I knew a woman who worked in hotel housekeeping who talked about "short cuts" that are used. Ugh. (I try to forget all of that when I'm exhausted.)

Always love when the maid folds the paper into a point. I realize it is a silly thing, but it makes me smile. Ah, the simple things in life!

I like seeing the folded shapes with the towels and wash clothes. :)

I can see it now, I will have a black arrow on me bum, and then what would the guys in the shower think it is for? Sounds like a BAD IDEA to me...

My Mommie taught me how to recycle toilet paper.

Wipe once, then fold the paper together and wipe again with the same paper. I later told this story in acclamation of her economics and reuse of soiled materials...as a joke.

Tee hee hee this is much better than what I was originally thinking. :)
    digger

Personally, I go with the "bunching" method instead of folding. It provides better traction. ...and THAT is ALL I'm going to say on the subject.

no, less info about it .Eeeewwwwwww.But, I agree about the depression era behavior. My parents had plenty of that. My dad used to lecture me on how to use only a few squares of TP,and fold them over, rather than a whole bunch.

To A O F, I heard they used pages out of the Sears catalog, or corn husks to wipe with when they were out in the out-house.

...and we are all so grateful.

Like @Ducky’s, that’s the only way. Don’t have to hunt for the end as hard……...

The same way as ducky, that's the most hygienic way.

I Use washable toilet paper ,i find its more economical,

Like country bumpkin  my wife and i used to be commercial cleaners as a second job,,we never folded corners,we figure people are smart enough to do that considering what they are going to do with it. However nobody has said why "over the top "is the answer..If the holder falls against the wall, pulling down on the paper locks it against the wall and tears the paper at the front without putting your other hand on top of the roll,,if you run it through the back, you have to put your other hand on top of the roll to tear the paper, leaving the end of the roll at the back of the roll,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Always nice talking

I have always liked my paper to unroll from the bottom, but recently switched to the overhand dispensing....like "everybody else".

Excuuuuse me. "Odd Duck" has been taken.

Place  the roll with the paper coming up over the top. That's the only way that makes any sense.Besides, that way , it doesn't get dirty by scraping along against the wall.

My cat seems to like to reach up to the toilet paper and unravel it, if it is over the top. Cant unravel it if opposite direction.

There are two types of people. The practical who are defined by logic and reason. We are the toppers. Then there are the artistic types who create in order to provide beauty and style, these are the unders................. In other word, I haven got a clue.

    Hi,Bigben, Haven't seen you in awhile.Welcome back .

I think that from an engineering standpoint, I had heard that the paper is less apt to over-unfold from the roll, (if pulled too hard) if it hangs over the top.  This is because the pull is down more and more apt to cause the detachment of sheets with the pull.
