It is how long you are supposed to live , in the abscense of disease; and if your health and life span isn't scewed by smoking, drinking, drugs, and bad diet, and some harmfull meds.
Example- - -an American woman's life span is about 85 if absent of all the above factors.
A life expectancy is something different, b/c that takes into consideration all of the above features that can shorten a life. So, the life expectantcy of a woman is about 80 . A man is about 78. It's gone up for both. Back when my dad died in 1985, the life expectantcy for men was 76. So he exceeded it by two years.
