That's exactly how I feel. It amuses me when some of the younger people where I work ask me how my wife and I have stayed married for 35 years. Then they follow this with "there wouldn't be anything left to talk about." I usually tell them that my wife and I are together most of the time and we never run out of things to discuss. We both love politics and read extensively and we both talk to our dog.

I agree, too much time is spent ignoring direct personal communication. As for my wife and I, she's a very staunch liberal democrat and I have moderately liberal social leanings, but center right on fiscal issues. So, our discussions become really intense, with wild gesticulations, rolling eyeballs, and sometimes with spittle frothing at the mouth like rabid dogs. But, we love a highly combustible debate. And almost never get mad at each other. Almost.

No, what we usually get angry about it that my wife talks to the TV. Actually, she screams at it. I keep telling her she's giving it a complex. You know what? I don't think she appreciates the humor in that comment.
