For now, try this: You have to download Bluestacks to your computer first http://www.bluestacks.com/ then you can download the whatsapp application.
If it does not work, then you can not download whatsapp to your PC because it is an Android app.

Is this because fb have bought it?
No, this is because it has been suggested that bluestacks no longer works to convert the app. I've still found no real proof that it does not work and I'm not going to download bluestacks to find out.
