If a person is speaking of someone they care about sometimes they say, "She/He is so great. I love her to death." What does that mean?

That really doesn't make sense to me. If you can, try to explain that well-known saying.

My opinion, "I love so and so to death", simply means this person means so much to you and that you love them so deeply that you will love them til (to) death but we all know we still love a person even after they die so it should be said that you love them to death and beyond.

I would suppose it means to love someone to the point of laying down and dying for them, I have a few loves like that………….

they admire and appreciate the qualities the other person has demonstrated to them and perhaps the world. and it makes the admirer want to experience those qualities more, and more and more. so often that's why we fall in love with somebody. that person has something in them that we wish we had and we love it and admire it, & thus love them 'to death'.

I could say I love my mother till death and beyond. For me that means I love her even though she's gone from this place we call earth.

I will always love my mother very much. And she's been gone for 12 years. She still loves me,b/c my g.friend told me a mother's love never dies.
