Did you mean cup of butter? (I've never heard of a cub of butter).
4 sticks of butter is one pound. It takes two sticks to make a cup, so one cup is 1/2 pound.

so that's what he means. I couldn't imagine what a cub of butter is. Thought it might be a brittish weight.
