A finger in a light socket will make straight hair curl, and electrocute you too!  Do not try at home!

You can make your straight hair curly by covering your hair with pin curls. Wrap a small amount of hair around your finger and make a roll tight to your head.  When you take the pin curls out it will look like you had an old-time perm.  Don't comb it out. You'll wreck your hard work.

you can make your curly hair straight by using a special flat iron for hair. Or, you can get it chemically straightened.
