If they are entering the house, sprinkle Talcom Powder at point of entry, they will not cross the powder, if a pets bowl outside, the same thing, powder around the bowl to stop ants getting to the food -- it does work. To actually  to get rid of them i suggest Ant-Rid - 0r again powder around their nest, this will only cause them to come up somewhere else, with perseverance you will eventally get rid of them.

I heard wiping down surfaces with cider vinegar helps………….

 we had a travel trailer permanently parked on our friend's property up north. Ants everywhere in the trailer. The sprays didn't work,.The ant traps didn't work. They were big , black ants.Nothing helped but Diazonon (sp ?)  We sprinkled it outside around the trailer. No more ants.
