With Paracetamol - as many medicines - dosed per kg body weight, why dose in age ranges, especially given the complexities of lean body weight, increasing infant weights, yet differences [with age] in processing Paracetamol?

OK, 2 things to start - Australian source doses up to 15mg/ kg, also stating that /kg is definitive - this latter concurs with my Paed. and PICU qualifications and experience altho' we base our dose on 10mg/kg..

2nd - I have seen a low BW adult driven into liver failure by a 'routine' adult dose - again, points to /kg dosing.

So, how does dosing by age ever sound rational?

This is a general question and answer forum. We do not have medical volunteers that can answer this. Try contacting the manufacturer of the medicine and ask them these questions. They can best answer why they set the dosage to an amount that you do not think is correct.
