One cubic yard is a measure of volume and the measure of weight is tonne. The weight of sand depends on its density. Sand has an ideal weight of 2,700 pounds per cubic yard. One ton is equal to 2,000 pounds thus there are 1.35 tonnes in one cubic yard of sand.
