    Environmental factors is one, ask is the environment likely to promote or hinder communication, external factors ie  how many times is the phone or someone else likely to interrupt, personal space should be respected, and the key is to listen and acknowledge make sure the message you are hearing or seeing is accurate, so check back with that person from time to time during the communication to see if you are getting the correct information, ask questions when appropriate and above all respect what that person has to say, whatever your personal thoughts may be.
