This is, without a doubt, the best question I've ever read here.
Affordable and acceptable aren't the same thing, either. A home I could actually afford would definitely NOT be a home I'd clamor to purchase, as my DIY skills are minimal.
Affordable means an amount that fits easily into the budget, not requiring substantial sacrifice of other living (and playing) expenses.
