When I get a phone call and I do not answer but my answering machine registers the number which I can then retrieve, is there any way that I can identify the caller before dialling the number. I have tried White pages, but cannot find a way to do this.

You can simply type in the phone # into a search engine.

Many times I have done this and found where the call is coming from.

You can also check for scams by adding the word 'scam' after the number

    like this; "xxx-xxx-xxxx scam?"

    Try it out!

buy a “caller ID” box and attach between your phone line and the answering machine. It will tell you what and who is calling before you resort to the phone machine……...
