My S.O.'s daughter left wet clothes in the dryer for 4 days, THEN dried them. The smell of mildewed clothing is intolerable and throughout the machine. I believe the dryer to possibly be destroyed due to her actions. Any remedy for saving the dryer before going out and dropping $$ to replace it??

Things You'll Need
Vacuum cleaner with hose attachment
1/2 cup bleach
2 gallons water
Plastic bucket
Soft cloth
Damp tack cloth
Instructions

Unplug the dryer from the wall.

Remove the lint trap and clean in and around the housing for the trap with a vacuum cleaner's hose attachment. The lint may become trapped inside of the dryer vent and become moist, which can lead to the musty odor.

Pour one-half cup chlorine bleach and two gallons water into a plastic bucket.

Dip a soft cloth into the bleach solution and clean the surface of the dryer's interior drum. This will remove any mold or mildew that is growing on the inside of the dryer. Wear rubber gloves to prevent any skin irritation.

Allow the bleach solution to sit on the inside of the dryer for one hour. This will kill any remaining mold spores.

Wipe down the inside of the dryer with a tack cloth. The tack cloth will prevent any lint from becoming stuck to the inside of the dryer drum.

Allow the inside of the dryer to dry completely. Keep the dryer door open to ensure the musty smell does not return.
