My family took a road trip through NM and CO. I got to see snow! My dad caught dinner (fish). I was about 5 but remember a lot of it............

The North woods of  N.W. Michigan. .......and the touristy little towns there. Love the towns on the great lake of Lake Michigan .  N.E  Mich. is beautiful too.......in it's own way .

Martin’s Beach - Half Moon Bay, CA. It was what a vacation should be. Three weeks of Paradise.

We went to Skiathos (Greek Island) for severel years, meeting up with the same friends every year, we had some fantastic times, great memories.

A toss up between San Francisco and Rome ( Italia), i had an unforgettable time at both.

I forgot San Francisco. I could live there. Stayed for three weeks one time. Got lucky and found a tiny apartment with a view of the bridge, etc. Oh, what a vacation.

In Australia with my family, while meeting the family of my wife, she returned after having left 55 yrs. earlier as a  6 mo. old baby of a war bride, in 1946.

I took my sons for a week in Morro Bay, CA.  We stayed in a friend's little house and spent every day at the beach. The sand dollars were thick in the water and we collected hundreds of them. My middle son found one smaller than your littlest fingernail, which I still have. We spent one day at the zoo in Atascadero, and our evenings were peaceful and pleasant.

    The boys were probably 8, 10, and 11.   ""

I wanna move back to Morro Bay. We talk about it all the time. There are four little girls who are holding us back so I don’t know what we’ll do. Morro Bay is not a place to live if you want to live fancy. Expensive. You can get a cute apartment or a tiny house for a reasonable price. Gosh! I’d give up shoes if I could live there. Every single day we walked the entire Embarcadero. It was hot 1 day. (ONE DAY) Can you imagine.
The girls are three grand daughters and one daughter. I collected Sand Dollars at Marina Beach.

Last week my friend and I went to Pismo Beach. It was windy and the sand was flying into our faces, so we went to Avila Beach and it was warm and calm. The next day we were at Cayucos for several hours and it was nice, too. Didn't go in to Morro Bay this time, but do enjoy it. I love that big rock, which I could see for miles on our way back to Fresno, and there is a nice bookstore and a pizza place there that I like...wonder if they are still there...
It is my hope to live near the ocean again some day. Family is a huge reason to stay put.

Excuse my ignorance, MsBob, what is/are Sand Dollars?

Bulletman: I posted a photo of a sand dollar at the end of my answer.

MsBob, i can see the photo, but was is it exactly?

Bulletman: A sand dollar is an extremely flat, burrowing sea urchin. WIKIPEDIA has a good description of them, but I don't know how to copy stuff in the comments section. They have little dove-in-flight shaped pieces in them. If you open them carefully, they don't break and are used in crafts. Sand dollars have a hole on the opposite side, in which sand gets caught. The photo is a dead sand dollar...the live ones have a darker color and some fine hair-like stuff on the bottom. When you lightly shake your dead sand dollar, a bit of sand will fall out. The ones we got floating in the surf were all dead. Most of the time, I find them when they have washed ashore. I only collect unbroken, dead ones. Most of the ones I have don't have the holes you see in the sample. They all have the little "flower" design on the top. I'm always a bit excited when I find a whole one.
