Dogs love chocolate, but brian hawk is right. The odd small piece of choc chip cookie will do no harm, but titbits made for dogs are safer.
Theobromine affects different species in different ways. It can be a stimulent and is a barred food for racehorses for that reason. It does horses no harm and they also love it.
Humans like it... including me... but too much can be addictive... hence the term "Chocoholic".
