Drunk fishermen wound up wild tales of wisdom and wit in their quest for all things slimy and wet. Naturally these often sung fables and yarns evolved over time to become the wild tales now handed down to our generation of ritualized, baptised, and sprinkled children of yar. Mer-men and mer-maids by name alone a mere contraction of merry men and merry maidens, one and all so jolly.

Belief, then doubt, then fear, anger, remorse, fear again then laughter, an all night bender, a painful headache, pleading, sleep, relief and dismissiveness. A weekly recycling of this sort of behavior over years of repetition would turn a pract (-ioner) into a prick.
