Because not everyone is good at making things nor do they have the time to build a boat. Besides, the cost of the materials plus the labor involved makes the boat more expensive than just buying one that is mass produced and ready made.

And! it stands a better chance of being a boat that would actually float. ie., if you buy one! Otherwise, my hand made boat would be a submarine, not that there's anything wrong with submarines but only if you wanted it to be a submarine.

Because my hand crafted boat would sink at the launch ramp. And then everyone would laugh at me -- I can't have that. Matter of fact, most every boat I have ever been in either sank or was stranded on a sandbar. Just the thought of me in a boat I begin gasping for air.

Fish scare me. When I bait my hook, I do it from behind a tree, I don't want them attacking me -- I prefer doing my fishing at the fish market, they are all dead and harmless, no fear of fish attacks.
