Dependant on which starfish it is they can have many up to 23.
The most common starfish has 5, but they sacrifice limbs when under attack and can re-grow them,occasionaly these new limbs can split. We had a starfish at deep sea that had 6 legs because the one it was growing split and continued to grow. Basically
they have lots of legs.
