reed valves are for recharging the cylinder, they allow air/fuel mixture into the CRANKCASE on up stroke of piston, and close on downstroke, compressing mixture from carankcase through transfer ports, and upwards to cylinder (above piston) I would expect a broken ring, or small hole burned in the piston,..used to work in a Suzuki shop long ago, but remember 2 stroke maladies very well...Bob Rode..
