Simple. Detail your invention on paper and mail it to yourself in a wax-sealed envelope and keep in sealed until needed. The postmark will confirm that your idea came first.

I like original ideas and give it away like candy to children. A new way to cut grass with a string. A disk of plastic that when thrown, floats in the air like a flat rock hops across a pond. A way to burn water like a torch, see through walls and turn a jet plane tighter than a piloted plane can endure.

I went through this with my brother. It's a nightmare. Get a patent attorney. You will have to search around for one with a good reputation.

to lock your idea, file a provisional patent which is cheaper and you may be able to do it yourself.
