Syria is one of Israel’s principal immediate military threats. Syria's primary military objective has been the destruction of Israel, but the IDF has defeated the Syrian army in every major military engagement since 1948. Rather than direct confrontations, Syria has used terrorist organizations (Hamas and Hezbollah) as proxies to attack Israel.
