The very simple measure is one cow per acre but the more advanced measure depends on many things. Read here http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_cattle_can_be_raised_or_pastured_per_acre

Are they dairy cattle or beef cattle? Are they growing stock, or mature, expected to fatten, or produce calves and milk? Are they on pasture alone, or barn fed, and turned out part of each day? Is it improved or unimproved pasture? What climate is it located in, rainfall per year, irrigation, etc.? All of these factors come into play when figuring the "stocking ratio" of a pasture.

Way too many. They're just too noisy, blowing their horns.
