Ha ha ha ha. ha ha ha. Oh my, robert. Were you alright?

Chocolate coated ants, Thailand 1979, sweet and a bit crunchy, you didn't want to follow me after the toilet next morning!

Ants would be crunchy and not all ishy inside. I would try one - just one.
    ROMOS

They're really quite good chocolate coated but.....................
    Bob/PKB

I remember my dad buying a small box of chocolate ants, grasshoppers, and a couple other insects. It was the oddest thing, but, you know, chocolate makes almost anything edible.

Curried goat meat at an Indian resturaunt.YUK! Fresh water eel.Not bad but you have to cook it right.

Not much else in the way of exotic food.I'm basically a meat & potatoes man.

    Bob/PKB

    EEL. ICK, YUCK, PUKE.

ME? Eat weird food? The closest I come is dipping my french fries in my chocolate shake...

I told you I was so........

Ox tongue.  Why would someone invite you  to dinner and serve ox tongue??   I would think you would want to treat your guest to a traditional dinner.  No warning.  I ate it really fast so I didn't have to taste it, my wife snuck hers onto my plate, I ate it too

    itsmee

My mom used to serve tongue when I was a little "innocent" kid. I wondered about the funny texture on the outside of the meat. They never said, "This is tongue, little itsmee." I sat at my chair and stared at the meat plate and thought...." Ohhhhh! This looks like tongue."
    ROMOS

Ox tongue is very popular in Scotland, as are lambs brains in some parts of Italy, everyone to their own as they say!
    Vinny

Monkey butts is popular in some places too but when you invite someone from out of your territory, you don't feed 'em monkey butts. You would ask if they would like to try it, make it available but at least have some roast beef n mashed potatoes and corn standing by. :)
    itsmee

I’ll bet no one from the US has had tongue. I don’t even see it in the store.
I walked in the park one early Monday morning. I found what looked like ......BRAINS. I ran to the park attendant thinking I was first on a murder case. He laughed..... just picnic food from a nationality I’m not familiar with.
    Tommyh

Pressed Ox tongue was popular as a cold meat with salad etc when I was a kid.I haven't even heard of it for years.

Dont know about food but i drank parafine ,once when i was very thirsty,

    itsmee

parafine? (The stuff they make candles out of?)
    hector5559

yes it was in liqiud form, belching for days, but we had little or no water, one bottle every 24hours,in 130f
    itsmee

Dennis: I think I missed some of your story. Is that a true story or have you treated us to fiction. Please respond to this, manly man. : )
    hector5559

Its not a story itsmee it was the circumstances i was in at the time,Stuck in the desert off of Libia,
    itsmee

I’d like to hear more about this experience. You could have died if that Parafine got stuck in your intestines or throat. How long were you in the desert off Libia? Why were you there? I hope you don’t mind questions. If you do I’ll : X. : )

With the Army for about 5weeks on a training mission, and the effect wore off after a couple of days,

Raccoon and snapping turtle. Growing up in the 70's we lived with the constant threat of nuclear war, (remember that?). My father decided if a nuclear war did happen and we survived, we would have to survive of whatever we could find to eat so he had us try things we did not normally eat. Raccoon and snapping turtle were the two most unusual things that I can remember.

    itsmee

I think you’l lsay “chicken” but I’ll ask anyway? What does Raccoon taste like? What about turtle? :)

The coon was awful. It was like a very grease, very fatty pot roast but had a strong wild animal gamy taste. The meat was very stringy too and tough. As for the snapper, I really do not remember what it tasted like but it was not good.

Micky D's gawd only knows what really goes into their burgers..

They advertise 100% Australia beef over here.I find it hard to believe tho.If it was,why do they mince it up & turn it into patties.

Acorn soup and fried eel.  I went to an American Indian dinner when I was in college in NW California. I shared an apartment with Becky, who invited me to go with her.
We both got deathly ill.  What wasn't coming up one end was pouring out the other.  ONE bathroom, so we had to take turns, or run outside.

That’s Crescent City? I’ve wanted to live there all my life.
That experience sounds bad ... real bad.
    Bob/PKB

Arcata, about 80 miles south. Much prettier than Crescent City, as I recall.

An Armenian dish, raw ground lamb with rice, onion and parsley.

    Bob/PKB

Keyma It is mixed with some bulghur, too, I believe. I didn't like it for a very long time, but tolerate it now. You can cook it.
    itsmee

Fresno has many Armenian people. I’ve never heard of the lamb dish. It sounds delicious if the lamb was cooked.
    Bob/PKB

Itsmee, the dish is flavorful and interesting. You can get it at George's on the east side of Blackstone just south of Herndon.

    Poutine. Delicious !
