      This means that life is unfair and people can do or try to do good things and still end up in a lot of trouble.

        I have ALWAYS wondered what that means too. I hope someone comes along. (I think the quote is a little different ... not sure)  There are some bright bulbs answering questions here. Someone will come along ... hope ... hope ....hope.
