You say "old" account. How long has it been since you last logged in to it? If it's been 3 months or more since you logged into it, then it probably no longer exists as it would have been deleted as an abandoned account.
Hotmail log in page > http://www.hotmail.com/ Also, Hotmail is now Outlook express and you may have to run the Outlook e-mail setup wizard > http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/dd936216.aspx
