I just think its instinctive, left over from the days we walked on all fours. Animals do it too, its 'contentment'. Your belly is full, you feel satisfied, what's left. rest! Also I believe that during this time of sleep your body is using all its resources to help in the digestion, more blood is sent to your digestive tract, less attention to consciousness. also, you can overcome this by walking after eating, it too forces more blood into the digestive system and at the same time an added plus, it burns calories.
