If it's US$ then it can be exchanged for face value. If it's in great condition and is out of circulation like the "silver certificate" and "U.S. Note" it may be worth more than face value. Otherwise, if it's foreign money, you have to ask. Like the Mexican peso of many years ago was devalued and 100 pesos was devalued to 10 pesos yu wuld have a problem except to collectors.
