This depends on what you apply the word to.
Firing could be, to fire a worker, as in end his employment with you.
Firing could be a sequence order used to ignite something. Example, firing order for a car ignition.
To shoot a gun you are firing it.
In pottery, firing involves applying heat to a glaze.
