Yes, Colleen is correct in that he rides a horse , but the horse's name is Monday. The horse he rides in to town, anyway. He could ride Friday out of town, and the days of the week mean nothing. It is the names of the horses that make the riddle.

Time travel forward and lose a day? Nope, that doesn't work for me. 

Consider the possibility he rides into a town split by the international dateline. He could arrive someplace yesterday and leave today, arriving in tomorrow just by strolling back and forth across that line. Much more intriguing possibilities. 

Son, you need more  help creating clever riddles. A successful riddle answer has backbone, stands up to scrutiny.
