Are you clicking the ask a question button on your toolbar? I know we have a button on some toolbars Do not click the button if that is what you're doing. Just type your search into the long white search bar on the browser. Now there is also a search engine called Ask, it could be waiting for that engine to respond.

Then your browser is being redirected by another search engine I think. Check your extensions and see if there is another search engine there. Do this by clicking on Tools, then extensions. You can disable any extensions you do not want.
