Starting OpenOffice and Opening Your WPS File

Right-click the file you want to open and choose "Open With."

Choose "OpenOffice" from the list of programs. The operating system will list a suggested program, but you can click "Other Programs" to see a list of programs on your computer.

Click "OK."

Make formatting changes to the opened file. When OpenOffice Writer opens a file, the formatting will be lost. You will have to reformat the file to look like the original. Settings such as bold, italics and underline will not convert when opened with Writer.

Save the file by clicking the "File" menu and choosing "Save As." Enter the name of the file, choose a location where you want the file saved, and click "Save."
