perhaps someone more knowledgeable can anawer than me,my first thought would be did he grow up as a kitten out doors if so, thats his/her nature now .

If you place the cat near where you feed it, the cat will not go there. Would you like to eat near your toilet? Other than that, the cat may not have been potty trained by mama cat early enough before separation.

I had a cat that no litter box was needed . He straddled the comode, the kids use to shut him in the bathroom when they had to go and he was around. So I guess he thought he was a kid.lol

My grand daughter has a male cat and he makes such a mess with his litter and his food he only 4 mo. old hope he will do better.

Well i can answer out of my experience, one the cat may have something called crystals, which are small infection sort of thing in a cats system which makes it hard to urinate at the right time. Second, the litter company or type does not matter, it may be the location, for example some cats do not like to urinate or relese in dark areas, small areas, smelly areas or damp areas.
