      It's highly subjective. We measure intelligence in animals often by human standards. Maybe they think we're dumb!  We often don't know what they're thinking. Some animals considered by us to be smart are killer whales, chimps, crows, macaws, Australian Sheepdogs and dolphins. Animals that use tools are considered to be smart. Sharks are considered to be dumb, especially loan sharks, who charge too much interest and get busted.

        My cats are very smart, they know exactly how to wind me around their little paws.

          the fact that animals are still around with all the human intervention would suggest that they are fairly smart.
