    A discrete variable is one that cannot take on all values within its range: examples include the ratings on a 5-point rating scale, or the number of cars currently in a parking lot. These values will be whole numbers, and all of the rational or irrational numbers in the same range will never occur as values. You can probably think of more yourself.
