what happens when an absolute auction property does not change hands? Was there a plant?

I suspect there is sometimes a plant (someone who the owner knows) who will bid-up an absolute property auction.  When the property does not close after 6 months or more, is there any resonable way to find out if the auction was ligit?

It appears that an owner can bid on their own property however the bank or lending company will have set the bid at what is owed....see here for more >>> https://www.google.ca/search?q=what+happens+when+an+absolute+auction+property+does+not+change+hands%3F&rlz=1C1AFAB_enCA516CA517&aq=f&oq=what+happens+when+an+absolute+auction+property+does+not+change+hands%3F&aqs=chrome.0.57&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#hl=en&rlz=1C1AFAB_enCA516CA517&sclient=psy-ab&q=+absolute+auction+property+law&oq=+absolute+auction+property+law&gs_l=serp.3...5548.8593.0.9397.4.4.0.0.0.0.183.538.0j4.4.0.les%3B..0.0...1c.1.5.psy-ab.OpYRfmkRLZc&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=644f5400406d2798&biw=1024&bih=653
