    can the police arrest somebody on a hear say statement of a witness before the obtain the witnesses statement?

    i was arrested for criminal contempt 1st degree due to a civilian calling the police and saying that they seen me in the presence of the protected party but when the car i was in was pulled over the protected party was not in with me but they arrested me anyway and then obtained a statement from the witness later

      In the UK they can arrest you "on suspicion" of you committing an offence.
