        When a bomb explodes, fragments of this bomb is called 'shrapnel' . Very jagged sharp and deadly at close range.  Rarely used to describe bullet fragments, however, the same would apply. If a bullet hits an object and falls apart with fragments randomly going all directions, this too could be called shrapnel -- As a rule, someone that have pieces of bullets extracted from them is called ' bullet fragments'.
