MARICOPA, AZ - Police say a motorcyclist lost his life trying to beat a train across the tracks Wednesday afternoon.
The accident happened around 2:20 p.m. on North John Wayne Parkway in Maricopa Arizona.
Police spokesman Ricardo Alvarado said the motorcyclist was crossing the tracks when his brakes locked up. The victim was thrown from his bike and hit his head on the counter weights that are attached to the crossing arms.
Alvarado said the man died at the scene.
According to a witness, the man was wearing a helmet, but it shattered into pieces during the crash.
Police have not identified the name or age of the victim at this time.
