How to Send a Text Message

Visit https://www.yahoo.com on your computer to create a free Yahoo email account.

Click on the "Add Contact" button.

Enter the contact name.

Enter the contact's 10-digit cell phone number in the email field, followed by the email server of their cell phone provider. A list of email servers for phone companies can be found at http://www.email-unlimited.com/stuff/send-email-to-phone.htm.

Save the contact.

Turn on your DSi and open the Web browser.

Click on "Go to Page" and visit m.yahoo.com.

Click on the "Mail" link in the top right corner and sign in.

Click "Compose" to write a new message and select the phone number contact you entered in step 4 from your address book.

Type the message in the message box under the subject line and hit "Send." You may be asked for verification. This will send your message to the contact's phone as a text message.

Open the Web browser on your DSi.

Click "Go to Page" and type in the address for your email provider. If your provider offers a mobile version of their email service, use that option.

Compose and send an email as usual.
Tips & Warnings
Other email clients besides Yahoo can be used to send text messages to cell phones. However, not all of them will run correctly on the DSi, so be sure to test your email client on the DSi before attempting to send a text.
There are websites that claim they will let you send a text message to a phone. Some of these are legitimate, however, some of them are spam sites designed to collect contact information. Be sure you are using a service you trust.
